Our foundation workshops prepare incoming MBA students with the basic knowledge of the business core subject areas. These areas include accounting, finance, statistics/spreadsheet/information systems, and general MBA study and research. The workshops will be held during the two weeks prior to the start of the fall semester.
Completion of these workshops, along with passing of a final examination, serves as the pre-requisites required to begin our MBA program. Students who do not have an undergraduate business degree will be required to complete the workshops or take the 31 hours of undergraduate pre-requisite coursework to satisfy these foundation requirements. The MBA admissions committee will determine which workshops are necessary for each individual student, based upon his/her application.
Only those students who graduated with a degree in business from an AACSB-accredited institution will be exempt from these foundation requirements. Students who do have a bachelor's degree in business may choose to enroll in any or all of the workshops as a review.
There are four, week-long workshops:
- Accounting: Will cover the basic principles of financial and managerial accounting. This includes financial statements, budgeting, planning and review of accounting data.
- Finance: Includes introductions into financial markets; investments; and the issuance, distribution and purchase of financial claims.
- Statistics/Spreadsheet/Info Systems: An overview of business statistics, computer information systems, and data management.
- General MBA Study and Research: Strategies and best practices for studying and performing successful research as an MBA student.
