On August 1st Dr. Peter Mykytyn officially became the new Chairman of the SIU Department of Management. Mykytyn replaces Dr. Gregory White, who retired this year after six years of service in the position.

Mykytyn, whose primary research focus is on the strategic, legal, and intellectual property issues within Management Information Systems (MIS), came to the College of Business in 2001. Before becoming a member of the College of Business faculty, Mykytyn spent 16 years teaching at the University of Texas-Arlington. Mykytyn is no stranger to Administration as he spent one year as Interim Chair at the University of Texas-Arlington. Mykytyn stated, “It feels good to be in this position and I’m looking forward to the added responsibility. Being in Administration is not something that I shy away from.”

College of Business Dean J. Dennis Cradit expressed his confidence in the new Chairman, “Dr. Mykytyn is an experienced, dedicated faculty member who will do a great job as our new Management Chair. He possesses an understanding of working in administration and has the respect of his peers within the Management Department. “

Though much focus will be directed towards his duties as Chair, Mykytyn will still teach the undergraduate Management 308 course this semester. When asked about his availability to all Management students despite his increased workload, Mykytyn smiled, “My door is always open to any student looking for help.”

Mykytyn said his primary goal will be to help, “…move the Department along in a positive direction”. There is no doubt Mykytyn and his fellow management faculty members possess was it takes to do just that. The extensive experience of the faculty and the well-guided leadership of Dr. White have the department primed for success.
