A Southern Illinois University College of Business alumna will be honored on October 17, 2009.

Betty Brennan, a 1989 Marketing graduate, will be receiving the 2009 Alumna Achievement Award for her outstanding service and successful career as an entrepreneur.

Brennan will be recognized at the Inspiring Women Gala located in the SIU Student Center Ballrooms and International Lounge. This prestigious event honors women who have made significant, unique, and lasting contributions in their community or workplace, and have served as role models of achievement for others. Those selected are women who have devoted themselves tirelessly to their work or the improvement of their communities and the lives of others.

Nominated by College of Business Dean J. Dennis Cradit, Brennan was overjoyed to receive the honor. She stated, “To be recognized is truly quite an honor. Honestly, Dean Cradit is surrounded by so many well deserving women; I was surprised he picked me”.

Brennan, who devotes her time on the Dean’ External Advisory Board, was inducted into the SIU College of Business Hall of Fame in 2006. Additionally, Brennan recently established the Betty L. Brennan Scholarship, a financial award designed to aid business majors who struggle with limited resources while they complete their education.

Brennan, a Rantoul, Illinois native, who describes herself as a, “highly driven and motivated person who loves what I do”, helped to start Taylor Studios. Founded in 1991 and located in Rantoul, Taylor Studios has been collaborating on exhibits for visitor centers, museums, nature centers, and zoos, and is known for quality, reliability and attention to detail.

Taylor Studios is recognized throughout the industry as a leader in exhibit design and fabrication. Their experience encompasses immersive environments, outdoor signage, scenic work, interactives, models, murals, and dioramas. In 2000, Inc. Magazine named Taylor Studios among the 500 fastest growing companies in America. In 2007 and again in 2008, they were listed among the 5000 fastest growing companies.

When asked what message she hopes this award will send to other hard working women, Brennan responded, “Any woman can be successful too. If this farm girl can do it, so can others! I would tell anyone to just dream big!”

This year’s Inspiring Women Gala, "An Evening with the Stars" begins with a reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., dinner and awards presentation at 7:00 p.m., and a live auction to round out the evening.

Proceeds from the gala benefit Inspiring Women Scholarships, awarded to SIU freshmen students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and extracurricular involvement. Scholarship winners for this academic year will also be honored at the gala.
