On November 10, 2009, the Southern Illinois University Accounting Society attended the annual Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Leadership Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Some of the students who attended the conference were Ashley Gibson, Ryan Masterson, Kris Clark, Nick Harris, Roman Svir, Jessica Gibbens, Brian Ess, Brittany Spain, Kristin Slechticky, and Kelsey Bierman. The IMA Student Conference is an annual student leadership conference for students to learn about the accounting profession and for professional networking.

Betty Brennan, a 1989 Marketing graduate, will be receiving the 2009 Alumna Achievement Award for her outstanding service and successful career as an entrepreneur.

Ryan Masterson, President of the Accounting Society, noted that the conference was, “a lot of fun and a great networking opportunity.” noted that there was a career fair, small and large group seminars, and social networking opportunities. “Everyone who attended the conference from SIU had the chance to meet other individuals with similar interests from across the country.”

Further, Masterson said that he and the other officers who attended were able to obtain a lot of new ideas for the Student Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (Accounting Society). Masterson said that he felt the conference will help him grow as an individual, as well as help out the Accounting Society to grow as a whole. In addition, it will also provide an increased value for all the members of the SIU Chapter.
