It’s almost that time of year again. March Madness is around the corner, and for Saluki Men’s Basketball fans, it’s all kicked off by the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. It also marks a new tradition started by the SIU Department of Marketing, the Saluki Expo and Brunch at the MVC Tournament. The fourth annual Saluki Expo and Brunch will be held in the St. Louis Hilton at the Ballpark in the Archview room on March 6th from 9:30- 12:30 pm.

The Expo was established to connect SIU departments, schools and organizations with the greater St. Louis market, as well as those attending the MVC. It also provides an excellent opportunity to connect students with the business community and alumni, and to promote SIU’s achievements to the media and the public. The Saluki Expo and Brunch is a casual event that showcases informative displays and offers giveaways from departments from across campus as well as local and regional businesses. It also features speakers such as Saluki Director of Athletics, Mario Moccia, and SIU Alumni Association president Randy Ragan. This event will be filled with other exciting activities such as a pep rally, door prizes, and a silent auction. The silent auction will feature signed sports memorabilia, tickets to St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs baseball games, free hotel stays, and a wide variety of other items. The ticket price also includes a brunch buffet and the opportunity to meet other SIUC Alumni and supporters.

Some of the participating colleges at SIU include: agriculture, business, education, engineering, liberal arts, and mass communication. In addition, the SIU Graduate School, Office of Technology Transfer, Office of Library Affairs, Center for Innovation, SIU Alumni Association, and the Office of Enrollment Management. Some of the sponsors for this year’s event include Pinch Penny Pub, Pepsi MidAmerica, Silkworm, Inc., Saluki Athletics, the SIU Alumni Association, Mississippi River Radio, and Alumnus John Heakin.

Ciji Taylor, marketing research assistant at SIU and one of the event’s organizers, states the MVC expo “is a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect or stay in touch with their alma mater. It also gives us a chance to showcase the many great features and academic accomplishments as we cheer on the Saluki Men’s Basketball team with pride.”

The cost of attending the Saluki Expo and Brunch is $20 for general admission, $15 for Alumni Association members, and $15 for students. Tickets and information can be found at salukiexpo.com or through the Alumni Association by calling (618) 453-2408.
