LaToya Locke, a 2005 graduate of the SIU College of Business, was recently named a Mary T. Washington Wylie Fellow by the Illinois CPA Society. The Mary T. Washington Wylie Program was started to provide educational, professional, and leadership opportunities to African Americans and other minorities within the accounting profession. The Fellows program was created for professionals that have an interest in diversity and mentoring. Locke is one of eleven of the 2010-2011 Fellows for this program.

The program was named after Mary T. Washington Wylie, who was the country’s 13th African-American and 1st African-American woman to obtain her CPA license. She founded her own firm in 1939, which is now known as Washington, Pittman & McKeever in Chicago.
