College of Business commencement set for May 14

On Saturday May 14, the College of Business and the Graduate School commencements will take place at the SIU Arena at 4 PM and 7 PM respectively. The College will have a total of 259 degree recipients. At the College’s undergraduate commencement, those graduating will include 45 accounting majors, 3 business administration major, 4 business economics majors, 51 finance majors, 74 management majors, and 53 marketing majors. For the Graduate School’s commencement, the College of Business will graduate 16 master of accountancy students, 8 master of business administration students, and 5 Ph.D. students.

Jeff Kottkamp, a 1983 bachelors in accounting graduate and 2011 College of Business Alumni Achievement Award recipient, will be delivering the commencement address at the College of Business commencement. Kottkamp is a senior client audit partner for Deloitte based in New York with over 27 years of professional experience serving large, complex, global financial service industry clients. Beginning in 2011, he began serving as the global lead client service partner for Morgan Stanley, one of the largest audit clients of the Deloitte global firm. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Alumnus George William “Bill” Beck and Carbondale businessman George Sheffer will also be receiving the Distinguished Service Award for their devotion and service to SIUC and their respective communities. Beck is a 1970 graduate of SIUC with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and is currently the CEO of Beck Bus Transportation. Sheffer is the owner and president of Murdale True Value & Just Ask Rental in Carbondale.
