Business alumnus receives 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award

College of Business alumnus William A. Fenwick has been named a recipient of the 2011 SIU Distinguished Alumni Award from the SIU Alumni Association. The College, along with the Alumni Association, is proud to honor Mr. Fenwick for his many achievements and successes.

William “Bill” Fenwick graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors of Science in Management. After leaving SIUC Bill attended Vanderbilt University Law School and earned is Doctor of Juris prudence. With his degree in hand, Bill moved to California where he began to practice law. He later became one of the founding partners of Fenwick & West LLP, a company that was established in the heart of Silicon Valley in 1972.

Fenwick & West is a full-service law firm that focuses on the business and legal issues facing national and international high technology and life sciences companies. The 300-attorney law firm services clients of all sizes, from emerging start-ups to Fortune 100 international enterprises. Fenwick & West was recently ranked the 14th best company to work for on the Fortune 100 annual list.

Mr. Fenwick has provided numerous services to the business community and also to the SIU College of Business. He has provided funds to the College to support two graduate assistantships—one to help the College with public relations, and the other to help the college implement Microsoft SharePoint, a web-management and intranet software platform. Mr. Fenwick has also been honored with many awards and achievements in his lifetime. He was inducted into the College of Business Hall of Fame in 1997; he was the recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award in 2000, and University Distinguished Service Award in 2005.

Fenwick will be sharing the experience and expertise he has collected through the years with business students on Friday, October 14, 2011, at the Dunn-Richmond Center. During Mr. Fenwick’s presentation, he will discuss start-ups, as well as venture capital and funding mechanisms for entrepreneurs. In addition to his presentation Friday morning, Fenwick, along with the two other recipients of the award, will be honored later Friday afternoon in the Alumni Lounge at the Student Recreation Center, where their pictures will hang with previous recipients.
