The College of Business hosts food drive for Good Samaritan House
October 27, 2011,
In November, the College of Business is hosting a food drive challenge including the School of Accountancy, the Departments of Finance, Management, and Marketing and the Dean’s Office. The goal is to collect the most non-perishable items before November 15th. The items collected from the drive will be donated to the Good Samaritan House in Carbondale.
School of Accountancy Chairman, Marcus Odom, was inspired to initiate the challenge after reading a recent article in the Southern Illinoisan about the shortage of food at local food pantries, more specifically, the Good Samaritan House, and the need for donations before the holidays.
“The Good Samaritan house helps those from the area who are unable to help themselves. With the state budget cuts, the Good Samaritan House is losing some critical funding and we thought it would be a great way for the College of Business to help them help our community,” stated Dr. Odom.
The drive will begin on November 1st and end on November 15th. Students, faculty, and staff from across campus are welcomed and encouraged to bring any non-perishable food items to any department office of their choice in Rehn Hall, where a bin will be located for the collection of items.
