The College of Business and the Business Placement Center hosted a Mixin' and Mingling networking seminar on Friday, October 28 in the lower level of Rehn Hall. There were about 75 attendees who crammed into the classroom to listen to SIU Alumnus O. Ray Angle, the Director of University Career Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ray's seminar was a fun and exciting way to teach students how to professionally network at social events. The seminar discussed things such as deciding who to talk to, what to talk about, how to join a group conversation, and how to politely exit a conversation.

MiKensey Fox, a senior majoring in marketing, described the seminar as a great learning experience saying, "Ray taught students how to properly mix and mingle while making a lasting impression. He also emphasized the importance of how making strong network connections can help you succeed in your career."

Matt Purdy, the Associate Director of Placement and Services for the College of Business gave us his opinion of the seminar saying, "The seminar was great.... It provided valuable information that our student can use not only while they are at SIU, but throughout their career as well."

The College of Business and the Business Placement Center will also be hosting a mock interview week on November 14th-17th to help students gain experience with the interview process. Along with the mock interviews, on November 15th and 16th a photographer will be available to take professional headshots for students. For more information please call 453-2603 or stop by the business placement center.
