Marketing alumna lands job with MGM International

College of Business alumna, Robyn Phelan (Marketing, 2011) recently was hired as the Internet Marketing Manager with MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas, Nevada. Phelan moved to Las Vegas six months ago with the opportunity to work as an intern with College of Business alumnus, Shawn Rorick, on the ground-breaking interactive marketing conference, Digital World Expo, which took place September 2011. 

“I met Shawn through the College of Business, and without that relationship and the training he provided I would have never been considered for this position. The College not only allowed me to network with individuals like Shawn, it gave me confidence in myself. I owe a lot to the professors, faculty and staff of the College of Business. Without their constant motivation and encouragement, I would not be where I am today,” states Phelan.


As MGM’s Internet Marketing Manager, Phelan currently handles the online campaigns for the Circus Circus Las Vegas and Mirage hotels. She is responsible for the online campaigns of “Love” and “Terry Fator,” two shows currently running at the Mirage Resort. Every day is different for Phelan; one day she may be in a publisher review learning about opportunities with new websites or networks, and the next  she may have a lunch meeting to negotiate a new buy. Any way you look at it, Phelan is in charge of getting “heads in beds” and “butts in seats”, through the buying of ad placements on relevant networks and websites.


Six months ago, Phelan had no idea she would be in this industry, let alone her new job. “I am so grateful the help and support the College of Business gave me, and I think current students shouldn’t forget to take full advantages of the resources they offer.”
