AMA co-hosts successful Polar Plunge
February 29, 2012,
On February 25, the SIU Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) co-hosted the second annual Polar Plunge event. Students, faculty, and members of the community, some dressed in costume, gathered to jump into the icy waters of SIU’s Campus Lake.
This year’s event drew 244 “plungers” who braved the frigid temperatures to participate in the cause. The plungers were able to raise over $31,000 in donations from family, friends, and/or local businesses to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.
Dr. Cheryl Burke Jarvis, Faculty Advisor of AMA and Associate Professor of Marketing, spoke highly of the College of Business RSO, saying, “This was an amazing effort by a fabulous group of students. They are very talented and hardworking students, and their achievements reflect on the quality of education they’ve received at SIU and through the College of Business.”
The event this year turned into a joint campus-community event, with volunteers and participants from throughout the university and surrounding community. To see pictures from this year’s event, please visit the Special Olympics Illinois website.
Please offer your congratulations to any AMA members or “plungers” that you know!
