2012 Externships take place
March 21, 2012,
While traditional spring breaks often involve soaking up the sun and hanging out with friends, 127 SIU students, including 34 from the College of Business, participated in the week-long SIU Extern Program administered by the SIU Alumni Association. Nine of the last ten years, the College of Business led all other SIU colleges in the number of students who participated.
The externship program allowed the students to finally get a taste of what it might be like once they land a job in their chosen career path. It also allowed them to develop their networking skills. The externships are a great way for students to gain real work experience, learn more about potential jobs in their major, and enhance the experience section on their resumes.
The program doesn’t just benefit the students, but the sponsoring companies as well. Externships are a great way for employers to “interview” a student for a week to assess his or her abilities, and determine whether the student might be a great fit for the company in the future.
