Greathouse elected as 2012-2013 USG President
April 19, 2012,
On April 12, 2012, the SIU student body elected sophomore accounting student Brittany Greathouse as the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) President for the 2012-2013 school year.
Greathouse has already made quite an impact at SIU since she arrived on campus in fall 2010. She is the current Finance chair of USG, the vice-president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) SIU Collegiate chapter, a highly-involved member of Blacks Interested in Business (BIB), member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), and member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
Genesha Pender, senior in finance and accounting. President of BIB had this to say about Greathouse's victory, "Brittany has expressed a commitment to making a difference in the college experience for the students here at SIU, and so far she has done just that. She is a mentor to freshman business students, helping them learn what it takes to be a successful Saluki." Pender was referring to Greathouse's work as a student mentor to other students involved in the College's Freshman Interest Group in Brown Hall.
When asked about the election, Greathouse replied, “I was kind of nervous during the campaigning process because my opponent was a strong contender and I knew it was going to be a tough battle." She continued, "Now that I have secured the position as USG President, I plan on helping to start a retention campaign as well as continue to try and bridge the gap between students and upper administration.”
The College of Business would like to congratulate and wish much success to our very own Brittany Greathouse.
