College hosts Entrepreneurial Saluki Informational event
May 02, 2012,
The College of Business recently hosted an informational event for students to hear firsthand how two finance alumni went from Rehn Hall to the business world. Nathan Woodhouse and Brandon Zanotti spoke to students about the trails and tribulations they faced while starting their now successful business.
Nathan Woodhouse received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2003. Utilizing the contacts he made while stationed in Italy with the Navy, Nathan formed Ionia Atlantic Imports in 2003 with two other graduates of SIU: Kallie Smith and Brandon Zanotti.
Brandon Zanotti was raised in Johnston City, Illinois. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate degree from Washington University School of Law in 2008.
Mark A. Peterson, chair and the Gordon and Sharon Teel Professor of Finance, aided in the coordination of this event. “At this point in time, entrepreneurship is vital to our regional economic development. In their talk, Nathan and Brandon described the entire process - writing the business plan, arranging for financing, starting the business, and managing their successes and failures. Our students were given the opportunity to learn of the risks and rewards in starting their own business,” stated Peterson.
Currently Nathan serves as Managing Officer to Ionia Atlantic Imports. His primary duties include building and maintaining relationships with suppliers and distributors, directing sales to large retailers located throughout the United States, and overseeing import operations for the company.
