Business alumnus coordinates second annual Digital World Expo

Business, media, and technology will be brought together in a three day conference created by 1996 College of Business alumnus, Shawn Rorick.  The second annual Digital World Expo will be held at the Mirage Event Center in Las Vegas, NV from September 27 through September 29, 2012. 

The Digital World Expo is an annual conference highlighting emerging interactive and digital media channels, with in-depth workshops for attendees and new business for exhibitors and sponsors. The expo is an engaging event with a cutting edge curriculum, special events and a high-energy, innovative exhibit hall. This event provides attendees with:


•    In-Depth Education and Hands-on Training
•    First-hand experience with innovative ideas, strategies and toolsets
•    Networking amongst industry leaders and innovators
•    A luxury Las Vegas business experience

There will be over 50 workshops covering topics such as mobile advertising, web analytics, web design, and much more.  Over 600 attended the 2011 conference and greater numbers are expected at this year’s Expo.


Shawn Rorick is a leading interactive marketing and media professional based in Las Vegas, spanning over 14 years of experience with well-known brands in hospitality, entertainment and technology. He is the author of "Emerging Marketer" and founder and Chairman of the Las Vegas Interactive Marketing Association and provides consulting services to many leaders in the digital space. He received double Bachelor of Science degrees in Marketing and Business Management.  After moving to Las Vegas in the 1996, Shawn found early opportunities in web development and digital formats that led him to specialize in multiple online marketing practices.


In 2011, Rorick developed an internship program for SIU students to assist in the staffing and operational needs of the Digital World Expo.  Through this program, students are able to gain a hands-on understanding of the many facets digital communications involves such as analytics, trends, formats, channels and users (consumers).  Four SIU Marketing majors interned this summer.  Natalie Miceli was a Sales Manager intern, Laurel Rokusek was a Marketing Manager intern, John Schumacher was a Public Relations Manager intern, and Tom Bannan was an Analytics Manager intern for the show.  They spent the first two weeks being trained by Shawn on all the latest innovations in the digital advertising world, they designed a print advertising campaign for the show, and they attended meetings of the Las Vegas Interactive Marketing Association. 


Recent SIU Marketing graduates Matt Dickson and Robyn Phelan, who both got their professional starts in this same internship, are also mentoring the current crop of interns in their introduction to the digital media world.  Matt is now part of the management team for the Digital World Expo, and Robyn is Interactive Marketing Manager for the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
