Accounting alumnus appointed to Sanmina Corporation Board of Directors - Emily Morgan
Sanmina Corporation, a leading integrated manufacturing solutions company, announced the appointment of Eugene A. Delaney, an accounting alumnus of the SIU College of Business, to the company's Board of Directors effective December 9, 2013. Delaney earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from SIU in 1978.

Management major to work for Union Pacific Railroad - Emily Morgan
Lane Dillard, a senior supply chain management major, has accepted a position as Manager of Yard Operations for Union Pacific Railroad. Dillard will be sent to Memphis, Tennessee where he will complete training before beginning in the management position. His official start date is January 27, 2014.

Dr. Cheryl Burke Jarvis named Associate Editor for the Journal of Service Research - Christie Mitchell
Dr. Jarvis, Chair and Professor of Marketing, recently accepted a position as Associate Editor with the Journal of Service Research. As an Associate Editor, Jarvis will consolidate and interpret reviews for the editor and authors, make recommendations on how to handle review inconsistencies, highlight the important issues for authors to address in revisions, and add any of her own suggestions for improving the research submitted for publication.

Sharon Leidy Todd, a 1985 Business and Administration alumna of the College of Business, was inducted into the South Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Leidy Todd was a two-time Academic All American field hockey and track star for SIU.

Gray is an advocate for incorporating gamestorming, a term used to describe the use of games for brainstorming, into the workplace.

(Ravi) Ravichandran, a College of Business alumnus, has been named the Irene and Robert Bozzone ’55 Distinguished Chair in the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. An endowed professorship is among the highest honors bestowed on a Rensselaer faculty member.

Wanli Zhao, Assistant Professor of Finance was mentioned in a recent Businessweek article describing why it is better to analyze companies vertically, rather than horizontally. When asked about his research, Zhao stated, "It provides evidence that an alternative view on analyst coverage strategy is merited. These results will deepen our understanding of how the firm's boundary and contractual relations impact its information environment."

Marketing graduate travels to LA X Games - Emily Morgan
Kyle Fredericks, a May 2013 Marketing graduate, recently got the opportunity to travel to the Summer X Games in Los Angeles, California. Fredericks is employed as an Associate Marketing Manager for the Jel Sert Company in West Chicago, Illinois. Because Jel Sert has the license for the X Games freezer bar, Fredericks and a group of coworkers flew to LA to do product sampling.

During intersession, 25 SIU students participated in the College of Business’s one-month study abroad program in Grenoble, France at the Grenoble Ecole de Management. Dr. Suzanne Altobello, Director of MBA Programs, and Jenni Janssen, Coordinator for External and Executive Education, joined the students on this international business experience. This year was the 11th year that the College of Business has offered this study abroad opportunity.

A successful businessman and philanthropist who is a longtime advocate for Southern Illinois University Carbondale has been elected to preside over the SIU Foundation Board of Directors. Greg Cook, president and co-founder of Cook Portable Warehouse (also known as Cook Sales, Inc.), is the newly selected president of the SIU Foundation. His appointment was effective July 1.

MBA graduate helps local food bank win grant to fight hunger - Emily Morgan
Kelly Kresin, a two-time College of Business graduate, recently partnered with the Victory Dream Center (VDC) to help win a grant to fight hunger in southern Illinois. Kresin, who graduated with her bachelor’s in marketing in 2012 and her MBA in 2013, runs a consulting business that offers social media and marketing campaign freelancing to small businesses in southern Illinois. Her most recent campaign with the Victory Dream Center turned out to be very successful.

High school and community college accounting students from 22 area schools worked together during the 15th annual Accounting Challenge in the university’s Recreation Center for a chance to earn a $500 university scholarship.
