Dr. Royce Burnett
Dr. Royce Burnett, Associate Professor of Accountancy and KPMG Research Professor, was recently named Associate Dean of University College. Dr. Burnett started in this position June 1 and takes on this role in addition to his work in the College of Business.
His short term duties and responsibilities are to develop academic and demographic profiles of students and link those profiles to academic success and fiscal sustainability, two objectives that are not mutually exclusive. The long term goal is to create and maintain a viable University College system as successful as its academic counterparts.
University College is a program designed to encourage student engagement with the university, and to make students feel that they are a part of the university culture and community. While some of the programs within University College are geared toward first-year students, the overarching goal is for student engagement to be prevalent at all levels.
Dr. Burnett is very excited about his opportunity to ensure student success and to help students understand that engagement in the university is crucial. He said, “I wouldn’t have accepted this position if I didn’t think that the end result would lead to student success.”
Burnett attributes receiving this position to his work in the College of Business. His job as a professor has allowed him to develop a skill set that taught him to coach, motivate, and encourage students, all of which are crucial to helping students succeed.
