During intersession, 25 SIU students participated in the College of Business’s one-month study abroad program in Grenoble, France at the Grenoble Ecole de Management. Dr. Suzanne Altobello, Director of MBA Programs, and Jenni Janssen, Coordinator for External and Executive Education, joined the students on this international business experience. This year was the 11th year that the College of Business has offered this study abroad opportunity. Throughout the 11 years, over 400 SIU students have participated.

While in Grenoble, 17 SIU undergraduate students took courses in International Marketing and International Strategy. Four on-campus MBA students and four online MBA students took courses in entrepreneurship, design management, and innovation. The program now extends to a one-month Fashion Merchandising program, in which two undergraduate students participated.

Undergraduate students in the International Marketing/International Strategy program were taught by four professors, each from different countries: France, China, Italy, and Switzerland. The schedule is intense for students, who attend class daily from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., then 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Cultural and social activities are scheduled throughout the month. Students enjoyed a scenic day trip to Annecy, France with an organized tour of the city. They also had a three-day weekend in Paris, which included a city tour, a visit to the Eiffel Tower, and free time to explore this historic city. Back in Grenoble, students also learned new culinary skills in a French cooking class, and participated in a ropes course, wine tasting class, and go-kart races.
