Management major to work for Union Pacific Railroad

Lane Dillard, a senior supply chain management major, has accepted a position as Manager of Yard Operations for Union Pacific Railroad.
Dillard will be sent to Memphis, Tennessee where he will complete training before beginning in the management position. His official start date is January 27, 2014.
His primary responsibilities will include managing employees and transportation operations, analyzing data to improve yard and road operations, monitoring resources to ensure efficient operations, and investigating and reducing safety incidents.
Dillard said the aspect of the job that he is most excited about is the interplay between performance optimization and operational logistics and the challenge of safely and efficiently delivering performance goals despite perpetually shifting constraints. He stated, “Union Pacific has developed tremendously fluid, efficient operations and is a great match for my interests and aspirations.”
He also credited the College of Business and the Business Placement Center for assisting him in his career search. He said, “I would strongly recommend that all College of Business students utilize the resources available, which for me included workshops, seminars, mock interviews, career fairs, having my resume and cover letters critiqued countless times, and being introduced to the extremely valuable network of alumni and friends of SIU.”
