This week’s featured College of Business Registered Student Organization (RSO) is the American Marketing Association (AMA).

The mission of the American Marketing Association of SIU is to offer members benefits including, but not limited to, affiliation with an internationally and recognized organization, professional development, community awareness, networking opportunities and recreational activities.

President Katie Hand said, “AMA is the only organization that provides direct benefits to marketing professionals in both business and education and serves all levels of marketing practitioners, educators, and students.”

The American Marketing Association was established in 1937, with the SIU chapter debuting in 1978. All students at SIU, undergraduate or graduate, are eligible to join AMA.

During the fall semester, AMA was very active and hosted a wide array of events. They sponsored a “Dress for Success” fashion show with Alpha Kappa Psi, organized a bake sale, participated in Adopt-A-Spot, and assisted the local startup company, Orderbolt, in marketing and planning their launch party. Their most anticipated annual event, however, is the Polar Plunge at Campus Lake, which will take place Saturday, February 22. AMA initiated the first ever Polar Plunge on SIU Campus three years ago, and the event has raised a combined total of approximately $100,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.
