Kate Brunelle Sorensen began the Doctoral Program in the fall of 2014. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Tennessee’s Accounting program Cum Laude. She went on to complete her Master of Accountancy at UT, and, while there, served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Almost immediately she realized how much she loves teaching college students and began thinking about pursuing a PhD. After leaving UT in 2009, she passed the CPA exam and began working in the Advisory practice at Deloitte in Atlanta, GA. After 3 years at Deloitte, she decided to move to China to teach Accounting and Auditing at Sias International University. She had a wonderful experience abroad working with students and learning about Chinese culture. However, she is thrilled to be back in America pursuing her dream of getting a PhD. Her research interests include auditor judgment, corporate governance, financial statement disclosures, and international IPOs. She looks forward to honing her research areas during her time at SIU.

In her spare time, Kate loves to travel and to experience new cultures. She has visited over 20 countries on 4 continents (and counting). She also loves film, photography, cooking with her husband, and UT football.
