Outstanding Seniors recognized at Honors Day ceremony

Scott Polczynski, Outstanding Senior in
Accounting and Outstanding Senior in the
College of Business
The College of Business’ Honors Day ceremony recognized outstanding seniors from each major within the college. Each of these students is a great representative of the College of Business as they excel inside and outside of the classroom.
Scott Polczynski was named the Outstanding Senior in Accounting, and also the Outstanding Senior in the College of Business. Polczynski has actively participated and held leadership positions in the Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi. He is currently serving as President of the Accounting Society and Vice President of Beta Alpha Psi. Polczynski has also served as student coordinator for the Accounting Challenge for the past three years. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree this May, he will begin his summer internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers in St. Louis. He then plans to begin the Master of Accountancy program at SIU in the fall.
Allison Powell was named the Outstanding Senior in Business and Administration. A native of Herrin, Illinois, Powell is a student in the Online Undergraduate Business Degree Completion Program in Business and Administration. Powell has worked in retail management for the past three years and is currently a store manager at Vanity in Bemidji, Minnesota. After graduating this fall, she plans to work in merchandising, management, or marketing in a retail corporate office.
The Outstanding Senior in Business Economics is Curtis Brown. Brown is currently a member of the Economic Association of Southern Illinois and the Black Male Roundtable. He is also a member of the McNair Scholars Program. Brown is very open-minded about his future career plans. After graduating in the fall 2015 semester, he plans to find employment in an area related to business and economics.
Christopher Whitmire was named the Outstanding Senior in Finance. Whitmire is a member of the Saluki Student Investment Fund (SSIF), a RSO within the College of Business in which students manage a portion of the SIU Foundation’s $1.2 million portfolio. After graduating in the fall 2014 semester, Whitmire plans to become a financial advisor.
The Management department’s Outstanding Senior is Savannah McCord. McCord is a dual major in both Management and Psychology. She is a member of Psi Chi, the psychology academic honors society and is a student leader in the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) in the Center for Inclusive Excellence, which focuses on empowering women to become leaders in the SIU community. McCord is a Resident Assistant in Neely Hall and a Feature Twirler for the Marching Salukis. After graduating in December 2015, she plans to continue her education and get her Ph.D.
Katherine Moore was named the Outstanding Senior in Marketing. Moore was involved with Pi Sigma Epsilon, serving as President for the spring and fall 2012 semesters. She was also a Sponsorship Executive Board Member for Up Til Dawn in the spring and fall 2013 semesters. Moore graduated with her bachelor’s degree in December 2013, and began working as an Account Manager for Arthur Agency in Carbondale in January 2014.
