CoB kicks off the fall semester with the Welcome Back BBQ
August 26, 2014,
As the fall semester kicks off, the College of Business welcomed students by hosting a Welcome Back BBQ. The event took place outside of Rehn Hall, where registered student organizations affiliated with the College of Business lined up to greet students with information regarding these active organizations. More than 400 students were in attendance at the event, where they were served pulled pork, barbecued chicken, potato salad and other treats from national Barbecue Hall of Fame honoree Pat’s BBQ and Catering, located in Murphysboro, Illinois. During the event, the students were able to play games, enjoy music played by DJ Robbie Stokes, and win prizes such as alumni memberships and gifts cards to various retailers.
“This event was a really good kickoff to the semester, and a great way for faculty and staff to meet the students,” said Matt Purdy, associate director of the college’s placement center. “We were happy to have President Randy Dunn, Chancellor Paul Sarvela and Provost Susan Ford join the College of Business to welcome the students.”
The College of Business also welcomed students by helping them move into Brown Hall, located in West Campus, formerly known as Thompson Point. Brown Hall is home to the freshman interest group (FIG) and the College of Business Living Learning Community (LLC). The LLC and the FIG allow business students to live together and take classes together. During move-in, faculty and staff members helped new students move into their rooms, making it a great opportunity to meet the students and families, answer questions and offer a chance to help the students in any way they can. During the move-in day, the College of Business hosted an Ice Cream Social so that new students and their families could meet and mingle.
