The SIU College of Business is in the top 5 percent of business schools worldwide, according to the premier accreditation association, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. With that kind of reputation to uphold, the College of Business is committed to providing each of our students with a top-notch educational experience and personal attention. That commitment begins with faculty members such as Mavis Adjei, chair and associate professor of marketing.
Adjei is a third-generation educator, following in the footsteps of her grandfather and her mother.
She was born in raised in Ghana, West Africa, but now calls SIU and Carbondale her home. She joined the College of Business in 2006 and became department chair in 2014.
“I love teaching students in the College of Business, because our students will do what they are asked to do,” Adjei said. “They want to succeed, and they work hard. Our students know why they are here. For me, that makes it easier to spend time working with them and put in the effort to help them move in the right direction. I want to help them grow and to pursue their dreams.”
Adjei also is an active researcher in the field of relationship marketing. Her research studies how companies can build long-term relationships with their customers. One of the areas she focuses on is building relationships by encouraging customers to talk to each other. Her research has helped change the way business manage their social platforms.
Adjei earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Cape Cost in Ghana. She also earned a master’s degree in management information systems from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, and a doctorate in business administration from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.
