December 05, 2017,
Donald Welge, member of the Dean’s External Advisory Board for the College of Business, was a national finalist for a prestigious award.
Ernst & Young (E&Y), one of the largest accounting and other services firms in the United States, conducted their National Entrepreneur of the Year meeting at the Marriott Resort in Palm Desert, California November 15-19, 2017. Approximately 2,000 people attended, including EY employees, former award winners, and 220 award winners from this year’s regional awards contests. The regional awards contestants were from across the United States, and they were recognized on the basis of entrepreneurship of the company’s CEO, as well as on the performance of the company itself.
Don and Mary Alice Welge attended this event representing Gilster-Mary Lee. Don was selected from St. Louis winners, Kansas City regional winners, and was named a National Finalist in the Distribution and Manufacturing category. The 220 regional award winners were divided into 11 categories, and 4 were named as finalists in each category. The category winner in Distribution and Manufacturing was Ilene S. Gordon of the Ingredion Corporation in Chicago, IL.
Don was very pleased that he and Gilster-Mary Lee were named as a finalist from the 220 Entrepreneur competitors in this national competition. Don pointed out this was not an award he personally won, but that it was made possible by the work and dedication of all Gilster-Mary Lee employees and stockholders in past and present years.
