Stories of Impact: Addressing Accessibility in Economics, Finance, Data Science, and Policy; Featuring: Diamondnia Mack, The Sadie Collective

Watch the recorded event

According to the Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey, Black women make up approximately 6.68% of the total U.S. population, but in 2019, only 2.5% of degrees in economics, finance, math, or accounting were earned by Black women. We can see the downstream effects of this phenomenon by looking at the number of Black women who held jobs in those fields over a similar timeframe. In 2018, only 3.6% of workers in economics, finance, math, and accounting were Black women — far lower than Black women's overall presence in the U.S. population.

Join us as we hear from The Sadie Collective, an organization dedicated to addressing the pipeline and pathway problems faced by Black women in the fields of economics, finance, data science, and policy, and learn about The Sadie Collective’s mission to advocate for broader visibility and presence in these fields.

Stories of Impact: Making Finance and Accounting More Accessible; Featuring: Charlene Rhinehart

Watch the recorded event

Join us as we hear from Charlene Rhinehart who at 16 years old knew that she wanted to become a CPA to help her community prosper. Having grown up in one of the most economically underserved communities in Chicago, it became incredibly important to her to give back and help develop her neighborhood and community. Filled with determination, Charlene became a CPA, CFE, and PMP all before the age of 26. She went on to become a best-selling author, the Chair of the Illinois CPA Society Individual Tax Committee, the 2019 Illinois CPA Society Woman to Watch, the recipient of the 2021 Illinois CPA Society Lester McKeever Advancing Diversity Award, and was recognized as one of Black CPA’s 40 Under 40 CPAs in the nation. As if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she has also written over 500 articles featured in Accounting Today, Nasdaq, The Motley Fool, Black Enterprise, HuffPost, Entrepreneur, and Yahoo Finance. It is going to be an exciting event and a lively conversation as Charlene shares with us about her inspiration, motivation, and wisdom.
