The College of Business and Analytics STARS program is a supportive retention program for students returning to CoBA after Academic Suspension, through SIU readmission, suspension reinstatement, or a change of major application. It is not for students currently on Academic Notice or Academic Warning, who remain enrolled and are supported under the university's standing policy contract system. Participation continues each semester until the student returns to good academic standing, with progress reviewed at the end of every semester. SIU Carbondale's academic standing policy uses a three-stage system: Academic Notice, Academic Warning, and Academic Suspension. A student is placed on Academic Notice any time their term or cumulative GPA falls below 2.0. Following an Academic Notice term, a student whose term and cumulative GPA remain below 2.0 is placed on Academic Warning; a student who fails to meet Academic Warning requirements is placed on Academic Suspension and may not continue enrollment.
Students placed on Academic Suspension may apply for reinstatement after a minimum two-semester non-enrollment period (excluding summer). This is the point at which the STARS program applies.
Please submit your STARS application and your personal statement to Ivan Vargas (ivan.vargas@siu.edu) or you may stop by the office, located in Rehn 121.
