Recruit & Engage with CoBA Students

We believe every employer visit should be a meaningful opportunity to connect with talented, career-ready students. Whether you're recruiting for internships or full-time positions, increasing your organization's visibility, or building long-term relationships with the College of Business and Analytics (CoBA), the Business Placement Center is here to help you make the most of your time on campus.

Our team will work with you to create a customized recruiting experience based on your organization's goals and hiring needs. Opportunities include:

  • Conduct on-campus interviews in a private meeting space.
  • Visit classrooms to share industry insights and career opportunities (with faculty approval).
  • Host an Employer Spotlight or Meet-the-Firm event to showcase your organization and connect with students.
  • Reserve a recruitment table in Rehn Hall to engage with students in one of the College's busiest locations.
  • Promote internships and employment opportunities through our CoBA-specific job board and student communications.
  • Build your employer brand by connecting with highly motivated students across Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Hospitality, Tourism & Event Management, Management, and Marketing.

What You Can Expect

When you visit campus, we'll take care of the logistics so you can focus on recruiting and relationship-building. Employers receive:

  • Complimentary visitor parking
  • A private interview or meeting space, as available
  • Assistance coordinating your visit and student engagement opportunities
  • Support from the Business Placement Center staff throughout your visit

Partner with SIU's College of Business and Analytics Internship Program

Develop your future workforce by partnering with the SIU College of Business and Analytics (CoBA). Hosting an intern gives your organization access to talented, motivated students who are eager to apply their classroom knowledge in a professional setting while contributing to meaningful projects and organizational goals.

The Business Placement Center works with employers to connect qualified CoBA students with internship opportunities that support both student learning and employer workforce needs. Whether you're looking to recruit future full-time employees, complete special projects, or expand your talent pipeline, internships provide an excellent opportunity to evaluate potential hires while mentoring the next generation of business professionals.

Internship Expectations

To be approved for academic credit through CoBA, internships should:

  • Provide meaningful, career-related work that aligns with the student's academic major.
  • Offer opportunities for students to apply and develop professional and technical skills beyond routine or clerical tasks.
  • Include a defined start and end date, an expected work schedule, and clearly outlined responsibilities.
  • Designate a professional supervisor who provides mentorship, guidance, and regular performance feedback.
  • Support student learning through meaningful projects, experiences, and workplace engagement.
  • Comply with applicable federal and state labor laws, including compensation requirements for qualifying for-profit internships.

Employer Responsibilities

Employers partnering with CoBA are asked to:

  • Complete the employer portion of the Internship Application to verify the internship experience.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship throughout the internship.
  • Communicate any significant changes to the student's internship duties or employment status.
  • Encourage professional growth by providing constructive feedback and opportunities for skill development.

CoBA Connections

  • Partner with SIU’s Extern Program

    For more than 40 years, Southern Illinois University's Extern Program has connected over 4,000 students with employers across the country for a one-week, hands-on career experience during spring break. The program allows students to explore career paths, apply classroom knowledge in professional settings, and strengthen their career readiness.

    Hosting an extern is an excellent way to introduce students to your organization, mentor emerging talent, and identify future interns or employees—all with no long-term hiring commitment.

    The SIU Career Development Center coordinates the program in partnership with the College of Business and Analytics and is open to junior, transfer, and graduate students.
